Topping's work which dates back 20 years ago has shown that in general the 2d harmonic map heat flow can develop wild singularities in finite-time. On the other hand, it has been conjectured then that, if the target manifold is analytic, the finite-time singularities should be well-behaved, including removable singularity and no-neck property. In this talk, I will survey some recent progress on this conjecture in the special case where the target manifold is Kahler.
